COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS FOR The Rap Canterbury Tales at Greenwich Theatre
Canadian actor and rap artist Baba Brinkman (The Rap Guide to Evolution) makes a welcome return to Greenwich Theatre tonight (Wed 8/09) at 7.30pm with THE RAP CANTERBURY TALES AND OTHER STORIES. This production marries award-winning The Rap Canterbury Tales, already enjoyed by tens of thousands of people worldwide, with excerpts from Brinkman’s eagerly anticipated new show, Rapconteur, premiering at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
In a virtuoso piece of theatrical story-telling designed specifically for Greenwich Theatre, THE RAP CANTERBURY TALES AND OTHER STORIES combines Chaucer’s tales of the Miller, the Pardoner and the Wife of Bath with a selection of other tales from around the world, all the way from Gilgamesh to Beowulf.
“A hip-hop tour-de-force” San Francisco Chronicle
“The clearest retelling of Chaucer” British Theatre Guide
THE RAP CANTERBURY TALES remains completely faithful to the spirit of the original texts, and has been used as a teaching tool in hundreds of classrooms around the world. At the same time, the language of the rap is completely modern, funny, and engaging, making Chaucer’s complex themes and characters accessible both to young people and a wider general audience.
Praise for The Rap Canterbury Tales:
“Genius…staggeringly clever!” *****
THREE WEEKS, EDINBURGH 2007
“Brilliantly done, riding a wave of surging metre and inventive rhyme…with
unflagging energy and prodigious verbal skill!” *****
THE AGE, MELBOURNE 2007
“A humorous, engaging, and I would say ground-breaking crossover piece
that is, all at once, storytelling, live poetry, rap, and theatre… The audience
was not only under thirties, and I saw more than a few grey-haireds (myself
included), tapping their feet and watching in awe at a genius writer, performer
and rapper at work!” ****

Jelly
I can only assume that the name comes from the USA where jelly means jam. From what I can tell, it’s an ongoing business networking event:
A Jelly is a casual working event – a co-working gathering where freelancers and digital nomads or entrepreneurs come together to work for the day, individuals who might otherwise work in isolation. Some may work in an office, but work at a Jelly for fresh ideas and a change of pace.
Whatever an individuals circumstances, a Jelly creates an open, idea driven workspace, which can supplement the social interaction many miss out on working from home alone or in a more rigid office environment.
The Greenwich Communication Jelly will provide FREE wi-fi access and FREE
power sockets 10am-6pm every Friday. Other facilities available include photocopying and colour printing, faxing, scanning, laminating, ring-binding and laptop servicing. Refreshments including a wide variety of teas and filter coffee and snacks are also available.
Jelly mates just need to bring a laptop (or whatever they need to get their work done) and a friendly disposition.
Greenwich Communication Jelly – Connecting our flexible working community!
