I used to go fishing here late fifties and early sixties. Sticklebacks, newts and tadpoles. The pond was no more than a foot deep so the boating lake was probably for model boats. Or a ten second punt from one side to the other.

The pond was emptied probably in the early sixties if memory serves me well. I recall going to have a fish but it was just a mud pool. I lifted the drain overflow cover and found it full of gasping sticklebacks, which were easy to catch. I extended their lives for several years by bringing them home and putting them in my garden pond. They make nests you know.

Anyone remember the pond left side at the block of flats in the Coombe Avenue estate opposite the top of Coleraine? The stepping stones are still there. Or the Mink farm between Vanburgh Park and Beaconsfield Road?

One delightful oddity that has escaped anything terminal so far is a small storage area accessed from 'the moat' of Mycenae House which is, to this day, known as 'The Dead Nuns Hole'.

This is right by my house and would be a nice little parklet, if it wasn't used almost exclusively for dogs to go to the toilet by dog owners who don't/can't pick up their dogs mess.

It's a real shame because the times I have been in there I've nearly always stepped in something unpleasant.
