A Window of Opportunity

Yeah, yeah, this should be in Parish News but I’m sitting at my computer and I’m in a good mood, thanks to a glass of Something Lovely from Theatre of Wine….

The jolly folks at St Alfege’s  tell me they have one or two slots left for the annual Advent Windows-a-thon and are wondering if any Phantomites are interested in creating a visual feast for the rest of us this December.

For those of you who are new to the area, Advent Windows is a fantastic idea where, every day leading up to Christmas during Advent, a private home, school, business or shop decorates then ‘reveals’ a special window. By Christmas Eve there are 24 of them to walk around and it’s becoming a bit of an event. Some are sweetly simple, others true works of art, and it’s the variety that makes them so special.

I can’t tell you how much I’d like to do a Phantom window, but I’m out of the running because, for reasons of space as much as anything, you need to be in the Parish of St Alfege’s to take part. But if you ARE in the catchment and you fancy creating a window, let me know and I’ll pass you right on to Mrs B…

The theme this year is “A Voice Crying In The Wilderness” but I’m not sure how strictly they stick to that. The main thing is for it to be lovely. But do hurry, Mrs B. tells me that there really are only a few places left…

I was going to have a whole procession of Toads, Dromedaries, Crows and Gnomes baying at a star rising in the East…..perhaps I could set it up on the front yard and have a web-cam link project it onto the clock tower…..

  5. A fabulous image, Benedict. Now THAT I would love to see…
