The Phantom Has Very Little Luck Trying To Get Pictures Of The Pirates of the Caribbean

Folks, I have been amassing a collection of photos of security guys’ palms as they make it damn hard to take pictures on public footpaths of the Old Royal Naval College, which just happens to have some filming going on at the moment. Unlike Gulliver’s Travels, there’s a massive fence and you get moved on pronto if you stop too long (i.e. a nanosecond) on the public footpath outside.

The best pics I’ve seen so far were recommended on Twitter by @SE10represent

In the meanwhile I took John GS’s advice and checked out John Adam’s post-prod effects (not Pirates but v. similar) – absolutely extraordinary, and, as Scared of Chives points out, makes you wonder why they bother going to the ORNC at all…

I only wandered through the set during the weekend when it wasn’t in use. Did you see any action during the week?

I like the vid for John Adams. I especially like the way it makes all the SFX looks like a total doddle, almost no effort at all! Drop in some cg smoke here, a green screen actor there and hey presto!

Is it true Johnney Depp had lunch at the Trafalgar Tavern?

If so, did he make it to the shoot the next day?

  3. Ariel says:

I saw him at the Catering tent around 1:15 this afternoon. Unless it was his stunt double. Which is a possibility.

Update 08:10hrs: Just walked around the fenced-off set (the bit by the river where there are approximately 800 security staff) and either Johnny Depp – or his stunt double (probably) – was being driven to the set in one of those electric gold buggy things. He was in full make-up and costume. Man he looked miserable! He needs a peck from Penelope Cruz I reckon…

They do start early it seems.

  5. Kelly says:

I think I saw the same guy about 6pm yesterday, leaning against the railings to take a photo of Canary Wharf, I think it may have been stunt double(at least that time)?

  6. Paul T says:

I got escorted off the site by a security heavy yesterday, who tried to make me delete my (rubbish) photos or hand him the memory card.

mrs t did rather better today – went down with the nipper, a security guard ushered him over to a corner with a couple of teenage girls, and two minutes later Johnny rumbled by hanging off the side of a coach, as they set up an action shot. He waved at the screaming gaggle of kids and was apparently a charmer.

Was mrs t screaming? She wouldn’t say.

What’s Johnny Depp got that I ain’t got? Apart from the $32 million he’s banking for this movie…

no doubt johnny’s double did a cunning stunt at some point (pretending to be him to get some adoration…)?
