Greenwich Wildlife (8)

Haven’t had a Greenwich Wildlife pic for ages but there I was just walking along, and there was something I rarely see in the countryside – a little grasshopper.

To be honest I don’t know much about insects, especially grasshoppers, but this splendid fellow was about three centimetres long (not counting those magnificent feelers) and not going anywhere in a hurry – he hung around plenty long enough to get this photo.

I saw one of these little beasties on my gate earlier this week too. Maybe we’re having an influx?!

I think we must be in ‘mid plague’. We have had to remove several from our house recently and keep having to watch where we tread in the garden as there seems to be thousands of the little buggers.
Still, nice to see. We also had a cricket (larger and brown)which I haven’t seen since living in the country as a child, many years ago. (too many in fact….)
Maybe nature is staging as fightback and we are to be over run with creepy crawlies!!! Stand by for the Daddy Long legs invasion force!!!

I’ve discovered one in my house too. Not sure what happens to him. He appears in various rooms at various points of the week!

‘Round about this time last year I had one read the paper with me in Greenwich Park.

I think it is a bush cricket. Used to see these in my garden in Greenwich:
