Enjoying Carpets

A miscellany of 'Ask the Phantoms' this morning, folks, as once again my inbox is running away with me (not literally, of course, that would be weird...)

The first question of the day reminds me of a course that the City Lit once ran - and I was tempted to sign up for just so I could say I'd done it.

"Enjoying Carpets." What a great course name (almost as good as 'Throwing on the Potters Wheel,' also running the same term. I'm guessing it was interpreting the patterns on those lovely Middle-Eastern rugs, or maybe evaluating thread-count (or is it tuft-count? See - I should have gone on that course and then I'd have known such things...) but it only ran the once, and my humming and haa-ing lost me the chance forever to enjoy carpets. I can appreciate them, but never fully enjoy them.

But back to the question. Rich, following on from last week's discussion about cleaners, is wondering if anyone can recommend a good local carpet cleaner.

Sadly, given the state of the tuft-wear and shag-pile chez Phantom, I really can't help, myself, so I'm throwing it open to the floor, so to speak. I know of no local carpet cleaners.

I bet that course would have told me. Regrets, regrets...

Haha, that's interesting.

So how to clean the carpet is not the thing that everyone can do.

No - I think to really clean it well, you must be able to enjoy it.

I don't think Shake 'n' Vac will cut it somehow.

I get my carpets done annually by Carpetiem (www.carpetiem.co.uk). Based in Dulwich but do all of SE London.

I originally picked them for the fabulous pun but they are very reliable, good value and will also move and replace heavy items of furniture so you don't have to totally clear the room.

Psst...I don't know about cleaners but if you've got a thing for carpets, I could hook you up with a Rug Dealer...

I had the carpets in my old flat cleaned a couple of times by Beck and Call (based in Blackheath). They turned up on time and did a very thorough job - think it cost me c. £80 for a one bed flat and I was pleased with the results. I did move heavy items of furniture myself before they arrived - not sure whether this was essential, but it did speed things up a bit.
