Deadlines, Deadlines...

Just a quickie to let you know that when Kirsty complained that the deadline for comments about the Olympic Greenwich Park proposals was actually before the date she received the letter about it, she was informed that it has been extended to 27th January, so there's still time to have your two penn'orth.

As Michael Caine wouldn't say, not many people know that...

This closing date is advertised on the Council's website:

I went along to the well-attended public meeting at the Joan Roan School yesterday. It was very interesting to hear about the planning application in more detail and see the visual plans. Issues around local economy, grasslands, landscaping, trees, transport, rare beatles and archaeology still seem pretty unsolved. And park closures very worrying. I'm sure if more local residents knew more about the plans then there would be an increase in objections.

If you do submit an objection you should also cc a copy to councillors, otherwise they won't get a copy.

Although the Councillors are ALL for the Olympics judging by the one I heard speak on Sunday night at another event - she described it as a pretty cut and done deal!! So not sure how worthwhile cc'ing copies to councillors will be...

I have sent my objections via email - took 5 mins and hopefully will be worth it!

Councillors are answerable to the electorate, so I think it's important they understand the concerns of local residents - they represent us after all.

And with local elections coming up it's a pretty important that they're listening and reflecting the views of their voters!

I agree that they may have already made up their minds, but if we highlight particular concerns they may take those into account and grant permissions subject to planning amends and changes, hopefully for the better.

agreed. i'm not anti-olympics, this is just the wrong way to deliver it.

the council have to approve the planning application, and with the elections in May lobbying Councillors now could make this a deciding issue.

Don't hold out too much hope for the elections. It's a sad fact that most people vote in local elections on the same basis they do in national ones. I wonder how many objectors to the olympics who normally vote labour will actually change their vote.

I most definitely plan to vote for change at the next local election, and well over 25 of my friends in the local area also intend to.

Our Councillors are weak, idle and simply ignore our requests.

Especially with regard to closing the park in the run up to the Olympics. I am pro Olympics but feel that a temporary installment is a waste of money, enviromentally unfriendly and leaves no legacy for those who want to ride in the future.

It is time for change,

VOTE OUT WEAK LABOUR!

No vote, no voice!

There has been only TWO objections to planning application 09/2599/L -it directly relates to the removal of the park gates. I've just emailed my comments to Fred Brown: pro or against, there's still time to have your say...
