The Nags Head
Pelton Road, SE10Egad! After 100-odd years, the Pelton Arms changes its name? Shock! Horror! I mean I know there's a new guv'nor, who's been shaking things up around there (I've been hearing very good things about the new feel, and as I passed the other day the little garden at the back looked great - I will be going, I just haven't got there yet...) but a name change!
But as that truly irritating man on the telly says, Calm down, dear...it's only a fake pub.
I'm not entirely convinced of the wisdom of creating an Only Fools And Horses spinoff about the early years of Del Boy and Co, but at least they're filming Sex & Drugs & Rock & Chips round here. Jon discovered the news on the Sun website, of all things, and I guess it could be interesting.
It's only a one-off special, and according to the website, they're hoping to get the major stars of the original back as, presumably, relatives of themselves. Maybe a litmus test of whether or not it's going to be any cop will be if Nicholas Lyndhurst and Sir David agree to appear.
Filming started on Monday (eek - hope it was indoors...) I think I'll pop down for a nosey later on...

See you at the bar TGP for a pint of Nelson... :-)
Nicholas Lyndhurst is playing Rodneys father. There is an article on BBC news somewhere.
There was a mention in one of the local papers, recently.
It also said something that was news to me, which was that another nearby street - Caradoc Street - had also been used as a filmset in the past, for The Krays.
'The Krays' film clip here.
Crikey Phantom, you had me going there. Renaming pubs should be punishable by jail time.
A guy who lived in Caradoc Street once told me it was used in quite a few films in the 80s - he said Sting was in one?
Billie Piper's first single - 'Because we want to' was filmed in Carodoc Street as was Oasis' 'The importance of being idle' - which is a particularly good video - both on YouTube...

If they didn't change pub names, you wouldn't be able to drink in a pub called The Cutty Sark

Fair point. I think it was Douglas Adams said that the way the world is when you are born is entirely natural and the way things should be, and things that are invented/change after you are about 30 are an abomination. (Things in between being new and exciting).
On that basis, and since the Cutty Sark seems to have been called that since 1954, I'm fine with it.
But if I were over 70, I'd still be seething.

Whatever....I used to visit Surrey Docks until someone poncified it and called it Surrey Quays
Caradoc Street has been used for LOADs of TV and films over many years. Something to do with the cobbles and the bend in the road, apparently. At one point in the 80s the then residents set up a joint fund for all of them. Dutton Street and Maidenstone Hill has been used a lot too.
BTW what did the Cutty Sark used to be called?
The Cutty Sark used to be called the Union Tavern.
I got a BBC letter through the door informing of filming at the adult education centre on Royal Hill on 9th October. (There's now even a nice new school sign outside.) Unfortunately Royal Hill is currently closed with workmen digging a great big trench down the middle so filming unlikely.
I live on Caradoc street, BBC we're filming all of last week and were generally very good to us. Even offered to put us up in a hotel one night they knew they would be making lots of noise.

The name hasn't been changed. It's still the Pelton Arms, the guv just kept it for novelty reasons. Although it does look amusing having two names on the pub, the cabs have got confused sometimes!
