Baby Bonfires

Lucy asks:

"We have 2 young kids and while we'd like to take them up to the big Blackheath fireworks display on the 7th, I was wondering if you know of any smaller bonfire + fireworks events around Greenwich? It's their first time so I'm thinking they would be actually very happy with just a few fireworks rather than a half-hour bombardment!"

The Phantom replies:

It's possible someone round here knows of a smaller one - but I can't imagine there will be much going on round here on the 7th itself as no one will be wanting to try to compete with the Big Bang on Blackheath.

If you're worried that half an hour of what a killjoy friend of mine calls "tawdry whizz-bangs" will be too much, perhaps you could take them over for the last five minutes or so - you get the big finale but not the numb fingers...

Does anyone here know of any small events going on round here, though?

Why not take them up to The Point on the 5th Nov. at the top of Point Hill and look at the fireworks going off over the city? You could take along some sparklers!

Crystal Palace, Hammersmith and Fulham all have "kiddies firework" displays about an hour before the main event for the grown ups.

Ah, The Point. Would it, I wonder, be such a crime to severely prune, or even remove the screen of trees that obscure what could be amazing nightime views of Canary Wharf and over to London. Or perhaps, remove each second one.

This would not be an act of vandalism but rather a restoral of a view which it would not have been intended to mask.

I believe that Manor House Gardens (in Hither Green) will have a bonfire night - its a very family friendly park and it should be super well organised!

My neighbours always have a rather good display on Fireworks night - in what is a rather large garden. Just go in the opposite direction to the rest of the world on the 7th and head down Dartmouth Hill - but don't say who told you.....
