The Green Witch of Greenwich

Dewi asks:

“Is there a story behind the green witch on the outside of the house on Greenwich South Street (the end close to Blackheath Hill)? My daughter and I were standing at the bus stop opposite this morning and she asked me about it.”

The Phantom replies:

This looks like a relatively recent thing – perhaps a pub or restaurant sign from – what – the 1980s or 90s? I don’t think it has anything to do with the present owners ;-)

I can only assume that it’s a pun on the word Greenwich – and it’s certainly fun – but like so much recent history, it seems to have been forgotten already.

Does anyone remember this being done – and by whom?
