Left Out

I've just been forwarded this message. Spot the deliberate(?) mistake:

"We are looking for people who live in one of the following Boroughs to take part in research on Tuesday 28th July at 6.30pm in Stratford. The research is about communities/community spirit and what the Olympics is bringing to these London areas:-

Greenwich Borough (SE2, SE2, SE7, SE8, SE9, SE12, SE13, SE18, SE28)
Hackney Borough (EC1, EC2, E1, E2, E4, E5, E8, E9, E10, E15, N1, N4, N5, N15, N16)
Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest & Newham Boroughs (E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, E8, E9, E10, E11, E12, E13, E14, E15, E16, E18)

The research is paying £50 and you will be asked to participate in a 10 min weekly or monthly (TBC) online questionnaire (for 6 months) for which you will be paid an additional amount for.

If you are interested in taking part please email us or text 'communities' to 07940 138132. We do need to cover people from all walks of life so we are particularly interested to hear from people over the age of 65, ethnic minorities, gays & Lesbians, or people with disabilities, so please email this to family, friends or colleagues that would be interested in taking part. This project is very large so we have lots of places on offer.

When replying please provide us with your contact details and state if you meet any of the above.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Now - I can understand SE3 being left out of this mail - it is in Lewisham - though will be just as affected, if not more so, than some of the outer postcodes that this does include.

But SE10?????

I'm beginning to get the feeling that the Olympic committee really doesn't give a stuff about Greenwich...

If the panel size is as large as claimed, and they are paying £50+ to all participants, I have to hope it isn't being funded by the taxpayers.

I am also curious as to why they think gays, disabled people or OAPS would hold opinions that differ significantly from the average.

Is there a specifically "gay" way of looking at the Olympics? My daft - it's the fit athletes getting hot and sweaty!

and all that lycra stuffed with........sorry, I need to have a cold shower and lie down in a darkened room.
Mind you, I would be a bit wary about sending a text message to the number listed stating my name, address, phone number and the fact I'm Gay. Who are these people again?

The lack for SE3 and SE10 is made up for by asking for SE2 twice.

Obviously it's because the drag race will be made part of the olympics.

Actually, it would be interesting to see what someone from SE10 would get if they applied. IS it a typo - or would they really be told they weren't required?

Anyone fancy trying to earn fifty quid?

Not all of SE3 is in Lewisham. There is a sizeable chunk in the London Borough of Greenwich - roughly from Westcombe Park up to the A2 across Blackheath.

Maybe they already have enough people from SE10?

Just a thought...

Of course these are being funded by the tax payers.

I've been involved in similar research, not in this field, it calling in a dozen people. I think it cost around £10,000. I reckon you can multiply this pricetag by 20.

A lot of money for just ticking boxes.

Hello, my name's Stephen ... and erm, I em ... gosh this is hard ... !! I'm one of the minority SE3 dwellers in the Borough of Greenwich. [breaks down in sobs of tears/is warmly applauded by 'SE3 In Greenwich Anonymous' co-members followed by group hugs all around].

Oh and I'm gay as well (no shit, Sherlock with that user name!), but I'm at a loss to know how there's particularly a gay voice to be heard, or for that matter the grey voice or an ethnic perspective.

And all this money to canvass our opinions. Didn't seem that interested in our opinions when they decided to plonk the horsey stuff in our front garden!!

Still ... £50 quid is £50 quid!

If you are a gay, ethnic minority, OAP with a limp do you just get £50 or could you cheekily ask for £200 as you tick four of their boxes?

So I've google searched them, and looked at their rather amatuer web site. I've looked at their 'sign up' page, and they want me to hand over all sorts of personal data. Yeah - right - I'm going to do that to perfect strangers. Additionally, you have to tick a box to accept this statement.

" I agree not to register with multiple recruitment agencies as I will be removed from everyone’s databases if I do. "

What sort of general dishing trawl are these people on?

We are The People Finders - Lisa Tarbard & Tina Collins. We do genuine research which is not a scam and feel very upset by the bad press that you have given us on this site!

Lets deal with some of your issues in turn:-

1. On our flyer SE10 and SE3 were included and we recruited people from these areas in the research.
2. We were specifically asked to recruit from particular areas from the olympic committee. We were also asked to recruit so that everyone would have a say and this included all ethnic minorities, the gay & lesbian community and the elderly.
3. Our website is not amateurish, but nor do we have a large corporate organisation as many of the projects we take on are for government and charities, hence our costs are kept to a minimum.
4. It is not mandatory to fill in all of the fields on our registration page, nor do we see the danger in telling us that your tv proivder is sky or virgin!!!

Finally if you had so many opinions on this research it would have been good if you picked up the phone and offered to take part in the research rather than make inaccurate comments!!
