Faded Greenwich (2)

Today’s Ghost Sign in the Faded Greenwich series (shamelessly ripped off from the fabulous Faded London blog which never, sadly, seems to venture South East ) is courtesy of Roger, who spotted it on the corner of Norway Street. We can only wonder how long this little reminder of Greenwich’s industrial past will last, its being perilously close to the new Greenwich Reach development.

I’ve been unable to find out anything about Dowells, though from the writing, I’d guess it was a Victorian company. I have no idea what will happen to it – or, indeed, the very sad old pub The Thames, in the same street. It’s a nice old place – could easily be turned into the Greenwich equivalent of the Dog & Bell
