Gulliver's Travels

This week's location shoot at the Old Royal Naval College is Gulliver's Travels. I'm guessing the security guards got fed up with explaining what's going on to curious passers-by as there's a big board at the entrance that not only tells us what the production is, but apologises for inconvenience - something I've never seen before and really appreciate - Thank you, 20th Century Fox, for being polite.

Unlike Wolfman, which barred the gates to gawpers, this seems to be a fairly open set. They close off areas while they're actually shooting, but the rest of the time the public can just wander around. Clearly, Fox have worked out that if someone sees something being made, they're more likely to be curious to see the finished article.
Being the world's worst star-spotter, I have no idea who this handsome couple are, or, indeed, who the panto-style guards may be, but apparently Jack Black is to play the titular hero. This could either be a brilliant or a terrible move, but there's only one way to find out, I guess...
At this point, may I renew my plea for anyone who's in the loop on filming in our fair borough, to maybe get in touch? I'd love to have a "what's being filmed where this week" section on the blog...

IMDB has more info. Lead man is Jack Black plus a mainly UK cast.

Yes, I just got trapped between filming scenes and so stayed and watched the set (rather than trapse all the way back round). As well as those you've mentioned, Catherine Tate is in it.

Shame the scene I watched looked like complete and utter rubbish.....

In my ignorance I thought Swift's book was just about a shipwreck and 'little people' - when in fact that's only part 1 (of 4) of the tale.

Everyone in the photos look really BIG - perhaps that's part 2.

I wonder how the film will turn out...um...

me and my wife passed through for a look see today and just think I was almost in breathing distance of the phantom and never knew it !! Spotted James Corden, Emily Blunt, Billy Connerly. The film set people (although very full of their own import) were relaxed and we managed to get really close to the action from the door of the painted hall.

I got accused of being papparazzi or as the film lady said, 'Paps?'. Looking down at my large chest I told her, 'These are man-boobs, love. Not baps!!'

Hey Phantom, glad you covered this - I have been going down to watch the 'action' at every spare moment. Jack Black was bouncing around on a mini version of the ORNC this morning, I presume filming his bit as Gulliver. The security were friendly and let you get quite close. Your photos are way better than mine though.

This is - as you can probably guess - the Lilliputlian sequence. Two huge green screens, primarily to superimpose a (relatively) giant Jack Black.

It's a fairly massive shoot, which is why it's surprising - but great - the crew are so relaxed. (And you may not have been looking out for signs apologising for any inconvenience caused in the past - these are completely standard notices put up by film crews.)

The crew didn't seem that relaxed today. Myself and a couple of other people were told to stop taking photos. Perhaps they've had a bad day.

Didn't spot any stars just loads of extra's milling around.

Not sure about Jack Black in the title role.

hi peeeps i was there on there from the 8th june till yesterday, i can confirm jack black is the main role and also billy connerly is also in the production, plus another big start i personaly didnt get to see them as i was busy with my duties in the ground slaving away for the crew etc but after having a good natter over the 3days to the security it is true and we also get paper work of whos on set etc these people are defo in it and its not a small film, i can see this being one of jacks best films as a leading role, im going to be keeping an eye out on the relase date as i would love to see the end product, oh to let the person know who rote the main artical the owners of the grounds would not let fox close to the public this is why the public were aload on the ground whilst sceens were being shot.

Having spent the past three years doing a degree at Greenwich I've got to see them film a variety of bits and bobs, all very interesting. It was certainly fun to stand right beside all the people in Gullivers.

Do we know what the next thing is they are filming there?
