Dazza and Rod have both sent me pics within about two seconds of each other of the marvellous arrival of HMS Illustrious. And very splendid pics they are too.
She’s here for a free festival of naval aviation which is taking place between today and the 10th May. According to the website, which has all the details, attractions include:
A Centenary Flypast: 1200 on 7th May. Every current Front Line helicopter type passing up the Thames over HMS Illustrious. Easily viewed from the grounds of the ORNC.
Flying demonstrations: 1400-1430, 9th and 10th May. Naval helicopter role demonstration, a Royal Navy hot air balloon and a Static Aircraft Park in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College. Here, presumably, is one of the exhibits arriving:
IanVisits is taking a guided tour of Illustrious on Saturday (he most generously invited me to join him, but the whole anonymity thing got in the way…) so look out for his account of the trip.
