Greenwich’s Alternative Domes (1) The Kings Arms

Today, folks, I’m beginning a new occasional series, devoted to Greenwich’s ‘alternative’ domes. The town’s full of domes of one kind or another, but a small minority get all the attention. The twins on the Old Royal Naval College. The Observatory. The 02.

I thought I’d start looking at the also-rans – which may not be as pretty or glamorous but are fun to spot all the same. It seemed like a good idea at the time…

I don’t want to know what made Jane look up whilst sitting on the throne in the Ladies at the Kings Arms, but hey – she did – and here is what has to be Greenwich’s most hidden dome – a little four-paned ‘ skylight which,’ sadly, doesn’t seem to open to the sky any more. Invisible from the outside (I had to check, obviously, by sitting with pals and a beverage in the garden…) it doesn’t have a twin in the Gents…
Not all my alternative domes will be as obscure as this one. But if you have a fave other ‘other’ dome, I’d love to hear about it…
