Country Lanes (2) Diamond Terrace
Diamond Terrace has three exits, the southern most one of which, that's a footpath only, is my country lane for today, full of lush country flowers (yeah, ok, weeds) and cobbledy cobbles. There's a fantastic grey-painted cottage halfway down, that I am convinced if you just showed a picture of it to someone, they'd believe was in the middle of Devon or something. Railings, flagstones, tulips and cherry blossom.
Long-term readers may remember the spooky tunnels that run underneath Diamond Terrace, including the one that was fancifully grotto-fied Regency Times and later used as an air raid shelter. Sadly I'm still waiting for my invite to one of the exclusive cocktail parties the present owner apparently holds from time to time ;-)
Ah, well. I'll console myself with some lovely greenery. Ahh...

Yup one of my favourite spots in the whole world.
Am I allowed to mention the sand mine ................????
Indeed - in fact the mines are where the link to the 'tunnels' goes to(well, not literally of course. That would be weird. Just a post about them.)
COBBLES??? OMG - Don't let Greenwich Hospital Trust know as they surely present a significant health and safety risk to residents. Surely some lovely tarmac or poured concrete would be better suited to this historic and beautiful site? Just consider all saved twisted ankles and sore soles of feet.
Polar Bear - would you care to expand, or have I missed something?
it is the perfect street. My jealousy for that lovely cottage is only exceeded by my admiration for how well it's looked after, especially that grey paintwork.
Crisis Trousers, check out the phantom's entry for 29 April 2009 - and fill in that form! Save us from the onward march of the concrete-pourers!
Crisis Trousers - Yep, admittedly a left field comment. The mentioned of cobbles brought on the memories of Phantoms post concerning the covered market in the town centre. There was much mentioned of those cobbles being unsafe, painful and inconsiderate to those using wheelchairs and the proposal to do away with them.
Complete tosh...... I like cobble stones.
Apologies :-(
The populice as a whole seems to have survived the cobblestone menace for centuries - have we regressed to such a point that we cannot manipulate our ankles to accomodate slight under-foot undulation?
I for one support the use of cobblestones if only to rid ourselves of stiff-ankled evolutionary dead-ends!
With regards the disabled, granted crutches might be a little tricky but I cannot see how they can be problematice for wheelchairs.
With regards women in high-heels - who cares?!
C Trousers, I care desperately about women in high heels!
Absolutely adore this place, and was just about to message you to recommend it afer you Angerstein Lane post. Is so beautiful and wonderfully well cared for.
Ms/Miss/Mr Trousers - under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) businesses are meant to make 'reasonable adjustments' to ensure that disabled people can access facilities - like widening doors for wheelchair users, having large-print menus for people who are visually impaired etc.
I'm not sure if cobblestones come under the legislation but I'd guess most disabled people would completely understand leaving the market floor 'as is'.
I wonder if Diamond Terrace is wheelchair-friendly...
