Snow Patrol

Blimey.

I've been dreaming of snow all weekend - but it has to come today when most people have to go to work...

I was going to use some old pics to illustrate this until I got some new ones, but I think they'd look a bit pathetic in comparison to what Greenwich has woken up to this morning. So - until later - stay safe, guys.

I walked to the City. Wonder how many people are 'logging on at home' and actually watching Jeremy Kyle?

Here in deepest, darkest Eltham, the situation is dreadful. The SE trains website is down, call waiting time for the National Trains enquiry line is "22 minutes". Strugged to the station to find the ticket office closed and the display screen saying "owing to the weather conditions, we are unable to bring you any information about the train service this morning".

Ive always said, if the Germans ever wanted to invade, they neednt bother with soldiers and bombs - they just need to make it snow; at which point the entire UK becomes unable to function.

I'm really glad I didn't have to work today. There are no buses (hazardous road conditions) no trains (although Southern and Great Western are managing a reduced service) and complete (and utterly expected) chaos on the tubes.

Got to love the snow!

took me 2 1/2 hrs to get to the City this morning via Canary Wharf then Stratford...only to find a colleague who lives in Lee who grabbed a cab from the end of his road and took 30mins...
I'm going to walk home if I can't find a cab...

Wellingtons are the answer. Walk to work!

Forgetting to bring a change of shoes isn't the answer though so I am now sauntering around the office in a pair of gummers.

I tried using the excuse that I couldn't get into work till I realised I work from Home anyway.....Damn!!!
Mind you, I couldn't 'lay in' as the darling little kiddies are building what looks like some sort of tribute to the Terracotta Army outside my window and making sure the world knows that they are out there. Might go out there with some salt in a min.....Who said 'Grumpy Old man'??????

By the way, think of the tiny animals and leave them some food if you can........

I've uploaded some photos from around the ORNC and Greenwich Park. I don't think I've ever seen the park as busy as it was this morning!

The latest Greenwich Weather Update is also available from the Cutty Sark Cam.

South Eastern trains appeared to be 100% canceled this morning (which would explain the buried tracks). I got the DLR in and walked from Bank.

Did anyone set up a kicker in the park today? If so, I shall cry... I came *so* close to calling in sick and grabbing my board.

Yes, you're right there. I was once in Wiesbaden with a metre of snow per day falling, and temperatures of -27 C ( that's without any wind chill factor) and the whole city functioned perfectly.
Mind you it was lovely to have an impromptu Bank Holiday and go up the Park. I met so many people I know, and Greenwich did look beautiful.

hordes of sledgers in the park earlier, using sledges, bin bags, road signs, estate agent billboards, rubber rings, fridge doors, amd so on. a few folk on skis and snowboards too. the slope in front of the observatory was very busy and pretty manic. was a great day.

We walked from New Cross to Greenwich Park today - the Park was mobbed with people who had begged, borrowed or stolen something to sledge down the hill with! We saw people with wheely bin lids, road signs, road barriers - there will be a lot of angry bin owners in Greenwich I think!
Snow was lovely though

It was the six people in a paddling pool, all sliding downhill together, who impressed me the most in the park today. Shame it's all melting now though

WellingtonBanker - not all of us are fortunate enough to be able to afford a home as close to our place of work as you are.
