Lamp Posts (2)
There I was, walking past those very 'brazier' holders outside Devonport House yesterday, when I actually noticed them. Brand new lamps - obviously part of the general tart-up of the grounds there - just not clocked before. So - those strange spiky bits were just brackets for lanterns after all. No braziers. Boo.
Still - they look pretty good, don't you think? I especially like the little crests on top (not very clear in this pic). Greenwich isn't all going to the dogs...Labels: Places of Interest, Street lights

All this ironmongery prompted me to dig out my cheapo Taschen edition of photographer Brassai's 'Paris' which contains a few images of Art Nouveau Metro ironwork (although the captions describe it as 'art deco'). Splendid stuff- different to and arguably far more radical than our local adornments.
Anybody care to coin a name for the style of rails that the Phantom has captured (if indeed they can be described as sharing a conjoint style)?
How about 'Greenwich slightly twisted Traditional'?
What about the techno lamp in St Alfeges Passage above the park gates? At first glance looks like a "Greenwich slightly twisted Traditional" then , on closer inspection, it is actually a CCTV camera, a happy blend of the old and the new.
