Illustrious On The Move

From Benedict, for all those (especially Dazza who so wanted to see her) who missed Illustrious leaving town. Here she is being guided downstream by a tug - I guess it's too, ahem, hit-and-miss to allow her to try to get through the barrier on her own. (It's the 'destroyer' bit that's the clue...)

By the time she'd reached the ORNC she'd drawn quite a crowd. Sadly I wasn't one of them - but it's a fab surreal-looking pic, isn't it.

Thanks, Benedict...

Your most welcome Phantom.
It was a truly great sight, and it cheered me up enormously.
Now if I was really smart I would have gone to the North side by Island Gardens and got a shot with your Wolffe statue just atop the Lustys Radar tower in a haze of smoke.......next time eh?

Midday ish I think, it was also quite a dash to get both those pics, it suddenly took of at quite a rate of knots (literally) after a lot of tying bowlines to helm poop decks and stowing of the main braces etc.

I think I need to get myself a job that is a little less regimented on the time front.....and an instant matter transmitter to get me where I need to be.
I have a pic, can't remember where I got it, of 'Lusty' steaming out looking from the north with ORNC in the background.....She dwarfs the buildings.

On the occasion one of the carriers did visit, we used to watch from the 15th floor at Harbour Exchange Square (south of Canary Wharf). The sight of one of these, or even the cruise ships, moving down the river, the way they dwarfed the buildings on either bank, and even the river itself, was truly impressive.

I wonder if Nimitz will ever drop in...
