Oooh What A Whopper...
It's described as "mixed use," which in Estate Agent Lingo translates as "luxury flats with unused retail space on the ground floor."
Ian says "With the tower element called The Meridian Tower after the nearby international dateline, it rises to 122 metres AOD and 32 storeys, the scheme has been developed by Peninsula Quays Ltd to stand on Plot NO602."
You can see it here. It really does seem that anything goes on the Peninsula. I didn't think they were allowed to build anything really tall because of London City Airport but maybe 122 metres doesn't count as 'tall' any more...
Of course, given that building everywhere seems to have slowed to a trickle, I'm not convinced this is something that's going to happen overnight.

I think that looks fantastic. I live on the Peninsula and am really looking forward to when all this stuff goes up (although, as you say it will probably be a while what with the state of the economy etc).
Personally I don't think planning regs need to be too tight in an area such as the Peninsula.. it's not like it will ruin the view of St.Pauls or anything and I think it provides a good contrast to other, more architecturally traditional areas of London
Obviously this is when ALL the Industry has left Greenwich, so at least another decade or so......one would hope!!
Also, have you noticed that this will completely block the view of the O2 from Greenwich itself??
Just think of all the tourists that will either see the Dome OR Historic Greenwich but never them both.
Yes it all looks very chi chi an every thing and dare I say an improvement to the current wasteland that exists , but, I dont want to be too picky, but, what happens to the Thames Path? Just lots more gated communities that now seem to own the waterfront. Pah!
Thames Path is a public right of way. No chance of it being closed off. In fact, it can only be improved along that particular stretch - currently derelict land.
The thing that staggers me is just how it is envisaged that people/traffic etc will get in and out of the peninsular.
It has just one tube station on an oversubscribed and signalling error prone line and effectively only one road in and out already heavily congested as it is.
Also, the new residents/occupants better be good swimmers because I really can the mass of all those buildings sinking the peninsular.
Not as far fetch a notion as you might image.
So what's happened around Lovells Wharf area? The 'Path's' closed and I doubt anyone living on the rivers edge will appreciate a load of ogling pedestrians filing past their windows when or even if it re-opens.
I am only to sorry that the whole atmosphere will be lost and the history of the area will be wiped clean with luxury flats no-one from the area could afford.
Good on ya, Dazza!
The Thames Path will probably be blocked for a considerable time whilst the development is built- like what is currently happening at the bottom of Pelton Street. The old deep water terminal site close to the grain silo has been fully cleared recently so I expect it won't be long before things start to happen there.
Will miss the way the river path currently is. I love running to the back of the 02 and around the peninsula- although its probably quite scary if you are more cautious than me. Will be sad to have yet more soulless acreage. But, to steal from Outkast, nothing lasts forever- so what makes this the exception? And at least there's a further 20 miles of wild Thames Path from Woolwich Arsenal down to Slade Green.
Is this the same path that's full of condoms, dog-**** and beer cans...?
It's called re-generation - of course there'll be a Thames path.
That proposed building looks pretty cool (agree about the transport though...)
The Penisula Tower might not be going to happen for a while (if ever) but these two towers now look certain to be added to the Greenwich skyline in the next few years.

as there is still no commercial outlets in place in millenium village, i don't think anyone should hold their breath over this new place
