What A Difference Eight Years Make...

Adam thought we'd be interested to see how a single view has changed in just eight short years. Click on this image to make it larger, then wonder...

I've just had a dig through some old photos and found a couple from 60/70's and found a couple of the Docks and there's nothing showing where the American copy is now.
I bet the person who owned the site when the docks went out of use is kicking themselves for selling it to the Developers.
Now if only I could find a cheap piece of land that I could hold onto and then sell for a large profit.....Anyone else want to join my Consortium? I've got £3.50 and a couple of buttons....just need the other £?? million

I'm of the leftish persuausion and alas cannot rejoice in this kind of development. For me it seems all too symbolic that these massive towers go higher and higher, just as the profits disappear farther and farther from the workers and savers who generate.

A walk through the average streets of the Isle of Dogs tells a very different story.

Trickle down economics was a con when the term was first coined and it remains so.

Despite what it represents I always loved Canary Wharf Tower when it was standing alone on the skyline...such a shame they had to ruin the view by developing the rest of the site. Guess that's what big money does.

I've made a morph of the two photos into a video here:
http://vimeo.com/1414213
It is based on the same sort of idea as one I made a while back.
Hope you like it...

A general question. Does every wonderful thing you post get nicked by the Blackheath Bugle... Canary Wharf skyline, Laughing Buddha news, there have been others...

You know, Anon, I really liked the morphed image. BB has his own style - if he chooses to run with something I've talked about that's fine by me. There's room for everyone in Happy Blogland...

blackheathen - small point, but the towers aren't getting taller and taller. Unfortunately, due to CW's proximity to City Airport, the building heights are capped, which is why too many of the towers are quite squat-looking.

Riverside South, which will appear to the left of those photos, will be slightly taller than the original tower.
