The Phantom Gets a Reply From Boris...

...or not, as the case may be. As expected, I got a minion, sending me the email equivilant of a xeroxed reply to my letter about the Equestrian Events in Greenwich Park. I repeat it verbatim:

To whom it may concern

Thank you for contacting the Mayor regarding the use of Greenwich Park for the London 2012 Olympic Equestrian events. However the selection of 2012 sporting venues is solely the responsibility of London's Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) with the agreement of the International Olympic Committee. The Mayor is aware of your concerns about the Park and has asked me to pass them on to LOCOG.

Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic - hand-washing to the Nth degree.

Honestly. I don't know how much more hands-off this new mayor can get short of hot-footing it back to Henley and using a rubber-stamp on the end of a very long pole.

You can't really blame Boris for not responding personally to you though - especially as Ken never personally replied to any of my emails to the Mayors office.

I doubt many senior people reply in person to letters either.

there is no way that Boris would answer any mail to be fair - that is not how it works. This is the response i got. I also got a holding response from Bridget Prentice MP who has had a lot of letters on the same subject and is following up with Jowell.

Thank you for your email to the Mayor regarding Greenwich Park and the Equestrian events

Greenwich Park will be host to the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian events as well as the Running and Riding disciplines of the Modern Pentathlon.

LOCOG is working closely with the London Borough of Greenwich, the Royal Parks Authority and National Maritime Museum to develop detailed plans. Residents and park users will be consulted throughout the process, as well as having the opportunity to comment further during a formal consultation period.

Plans will be submitted to Greenwich Council, as the local planning authority, in late 2009 with an accompanying Environmental Impact Assessment report.

Until this early feasibility work has been completed, it is not possible to state if, when, or for how long areas of the Park might be closed. However, LOCOG's aim is to ensure minimum disruption to the Park and residents.

Further information is available from LOCOG who can be contacted at http://www.london2012.com/contact-us.php

Yours sincerely

Of course - I didn't expect a personal letter signed with love and kisses - but I did rather hope that I might get some kind of intimation that the guy actually read it. They say "he is aware" - but I'm not convinced. Oh well. We've tried that avenue. Onward and upward.

...and to be honest it's more his 'hands-off, nothing to do with me, Guv' approach...
