Tunnel Closure?
Someone was telling me recently that they had heard that the north bound Blackwall Tunnel was due to be closed for a period of months for refurbishment. And they thought that it was a 24/7 closure rather than the odd bit of weekend work.I have searched and can find no info. on this but I have a niggling feeling that I had heard mention of this a year or so ago and was wondering if you had any information.
The Phantom replies:
I'd be very surprised if there was to be any major closure in the near future given the Northbound tunnel's only just re-opened after refurbishment, but I wouldn't put anything beyond TfL. I'd really hope they would publicise something as major as this - and I certainly haven't heard anything like it. I'm sure Tunnelbore would have talked about it at length.
So - fingers crossed, a tentative "I really don't think so." Anyone know anything more?

Phew there's no tunnel closure...otherwise traffic would everyday be backed-up for miles along Blackwall Lane/Trafalgar Road...oh...
No news on the tunnel, but understand that the DLR between Lewisham and Crossharbour will have only one line - and therefore only one train, running for six months over this summer, while the platforms are lengthened for the longer trains.
One of the train drivers/captains said DLR wanted to do the work over a number of years but TFL put its foot down & insisted it get done this year, getting ready for the Olympics I guess - hence a nearly unworkable DLR for six months.
*groaaannnnn*
Looking on the bright side, though, I guess it will persuade more people to get "on yer bikes", and the 3-car DLR trains will be ready much earlier than if the construction was dragged out for several years...
The DLR leaflet says Lewisham to Crossharbour will be reduced to one line for July and August only.
