Little Green Space
Little Green Space is just two days old - a local company that plants up lovely window boxes for instant Spring loveliness. I am a big fan of fab front gardens (as you may have noticed) and anything that makes Greenwich look nicer as I walk through it is good by me. It doesn't matter whether you've got a giant front garden or no garden at all, I am yet to find someone who doesn't have windows...
They deliver ready-planted window boxes, (or a colourful tub) so even if your fingers are any shade of the rainbow except green, you too can have a place that would be worthy of a Phantom Favourite Front Garden...
So - to Richard Campbell's idea. He's offered to give a window box away free to a local place that needs cheering up - a charity, group, elderly folks' home - that sort of thing.
So I thought I'd ask you - do you have any ideas for somewhere that would like such a sweet gift? Check out their website www.littlegreenspace.com and let me know...

Do they have a website? Contact details?

yes - www.littlegreenspace.com.
Generally, you can just click on my hyperlinks to go through to sites.
How come he did'nt get an RTFM blast like I got yesterday ?
:)
Believe me I thought it.
But I've been told off for being a Grumpy Old Phantom, so as from today, I'm curbing my tongue.
I shall be new, Super-Polite Phantom. It may even last to next week.
No, Anonymous was right - the hyperlink was to blogger.com. So s/he didn't deserve a RTFM.
It's fixed now.
Or should that have been "an RTFM"?
Grammar are so complicated.
Yes. Naughty Phantom who was trying to type too fast got the link wrong.
Slapped bony wrist.
But get your thinking caps, on, guys. Suggestions, please!
What's the old people's home on the Woolwich Road opposite the Select10n - you know, the one with the mouldy old soft toy St Bernard staring forlornly out of the window?
Only thing is, I'm not sure one box would make much difference. Some of the residents do their best with their own little window boxes, but the whole place makes me feel so sad whenever I walk past. If there weren't so many window boxes (and gnome collections), I'd be so tempted to go round there myself and do some guerilla gardening for them!
I'm thinking, I'm thinking - I know because my head hurts.
(Sheesh, Super-Polite Phantom lasted all of 27 minutes)
In my neck of the woods - how about the West Greenwich Library? It's not particularly run-down, but that whole stretch of pavement is fairly barren. A lovely windowbox or two would really brighten up the streetscape - and it would be nice to support a local civic institution...
I know the one - and I know the dog too!I even thought of that one myself but worry for the same reason as you.
You're right - there are a LOT of window boxes there. One or two of them (presumably the more active residents) have made an effort. It would be nice to start an adopt-a-box scheme - but I think you'd need a lot of volunteers!
I always think our local nick to do with a bit of "softening" or the sheltered housing at the bottom of Royal Hill could do with some cheery boxes. Maybe do some hanging baskets for the hordings round the "New Heart of East Greenwich" site. Failing that do you think we could turf the tops of the containers I now have to look at, perhaps with some wild flowers thrown in?
Erm, Kirsty?
It's spelt "SElect10n".
Please try harder next time.
Bl**dy hell!
I thought it was TGP's job to fire off rockets up backsides, not Franklin's?!
Next I'm going to be told off for not capitalising the initial letter of my own name!
:-)
I was also thinking about the OAP home at the bottom of Royal Hill (Serica Court, I think) - great minds and all that, eh Benedict? (fools seldom differ more like) - but then, it IS surrounced by trees and grass and bushes and other greenery.
But I like the suggestion of the nick - as long as they use Glad-to-be-out-on-a-technicalit-ioli and lots of Viole(n)ts in the display.
Kisrty, I wasn't going to say anything, but now that you've mentioned it... I mean come on, e.e. cummings kinda DID the capitals thing to death, doncha' think?
;-)
I'm confused is RTFM some kind of hanging plant?
Stitch it all together and you get a hanging plant blast up the backside.
Ouch!
Right Folks - I'm off. Don't forget the show at Greenwich theatre tonight - supposedly pretty damn good, and Lloyd Scott at the Marathon on Sunday. And keep suggesting places for a lovely window box.
Happy Greenwich Weekend...
Oh - and play nice while I'm away - I don't want to miss any flaming fun...
"Flaming Fun" sounds like something a Queen might get up to!
Sssshhh......has the Phantom gone.....lets go nuts kids!!!!!
whilst the cat's away, and all that...
party at the Phantom place then!
Re the window boxes, I think the biggest problem is that those buildings most in need of cheering up are in need of more than one small window box. Yes, it's a generous offer by littlegreenspace, but for the box to have impact, it needs to be a small building with one or two windows. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anywhere. I agree with all the suggestions made, but think they'd need a flower transplant the size of Kew Gardens to make a real difference. There must be somewhere round here where a single bright box would make a big difference?
Ok, back to the Flaming Fun...
franklin, if you got a hanging plant blasted up the backside, you'd need to stitch it all together.
Have a good weekend, Phantom! I'll try to take some pics, but my camera's not waterproof...
Byyyyeeee....
......
Whoohoo, Phantom's gone! I brought the beer and pretzels, who brought the sparklers?!
I've got loads of ginger beer and my chum Fotherington Thomas has got a Dancette with the latest all the latest skiffle 45's.
And Benedict - you're bringing the toads, right? A couple of barrels should do...
You betcha' Franklin!!!
