Jools Holland on R4

Anyone listening to Book of the Week? It's Jools Holland, reading from his memoirs Barefaced Lies and Boogie-Woogie Boasts, and has some great stories about his rock & roll lifestyle - and his affinity with Greenwich. Frankly, I'd enjoy it more if someone else was reading it - he has an annoying, stilted style when reading that he doesn't have when he's improvising - but it's still interesting. You can do the 'listen again' thing here:

I've enjoyed listening to and watching Jools Holland for many years. He seems, to this hopelessly untalented amateur musician, to have an incredible, seemingly innate, ability as a pianist. He is also a very engaging presenter and his dry laconic sense of humour came over throughout the readings from his book.

There wasn't a bad word to be said by him about anybody that he referred to and at times I wondered if the gloves would ever come off. They never did. Would that life were so mellow for everybody- although I suspect that he has probably edited out his own fair share of disagreeable experiences and memories.
