Lap Dancing - Oooh-errr
Has there been any further news about the proposed lap dancing club at The Plaza on Trafalgar road?
The Phantom Replies
It's all gone rather quiet recently as far as I know. The council threw out the application a few months ago - but that usually just leaves them open to re-apply ad-nauseum until someone gives in. I haven't heard anything recently, so I'm assuming they're lying low for a while until the fuss has died down before re-applying. Of course they might have their beady eye on the Dome now. There's a nice big space where the casino was going to be...
Anyone else know anything?

So it all begins again...
Latest letter from Mary Mills says that planning permission for the amusement arcade on Trafalgar Road - originally refused by the Council, you'll remember - has been approved by the Department of the Environment Inspector. So it's Local Government 0 - Stalinist National Government 1.
You might recall that they did this with the decision over the Durkan Woolwich Road monstrosity too; and it's entirely possible will do so again with the lap dancing club.
Good grief just what Greenwich needs - I know I sound like an old reactionary.
What are the chances of them winning on appeal?
Local gal Jane Shilling takes a pop at the arcade decision in her weekly Times column...
Chances of winning on appeal? The conditions are a bit different this time (Council planning officers actually approved the Durkan plans but were overruled in committee - believe Council has opposed the lap dancing club throughout). But probably fairly slim, judging by the arcade fiasco.
Perhaps we should all write to Hazel Blears, chief mouth of this week's New Labour "localism" idea, to applaud the initiative and ask her to explain why it clearly isn't happening in practice?
