Word Verification

Folks,

I've just had my first deluge of spam comments - you know the sort of thing - random number websites and other horrid things, so I've introduced word verification - where you get a wobbly-letter thingie to copy so that a computer can't fake it. Hopefully that will stop the problem. I really don't want to have to make people register or anything...

Thanks AK. Glad to see it's working - as author I don't have to do it, so it's nice to know it's working.

I prefer to leave the worrd check of but set eMail notification of comments on. That allows you to kill spam quickly but also alerts you to comments on old posts.

Also, you may wish to consider setting "Show comments in a popup window?" on the comments setting to "Yes" - that way the post doesn't disappear when you go to comment.

Hi Ham - good to see you here again - I'm still loving your London Daily Photo. Since I STILL don't have my links up and running, I should mention, folks, that Ham's www.londondailyphoto.com is one of my very favourite websites full stop. It's a truly individual, eclectic site which never fails to enchant me.

I had the email notification set, but the sheer volume of spam I got this morning was alarming - I'll see how I do with the word thingy for now. I quite like the idea of the popups, except that some people block popups. Have you had a problem with this?

If this humble comment reaches the blog it will be with immense thanks to the Phantom for having the good sense and forethought to consider those of us that can not see the verification picture; it will also be a small victory for me as it will be the first time I've managed to verify successfully, this time, using the audio method. Inappropriate wheelchair symbol not withstanding ...

It's a great blog Phantom, I love it.

Wow - so the inappropriate wheelchair thingy works then! Huzzah! Actually it's nothing to do with me, it's blogger you have to thank for making my humble blog accessible to all.
