Ironing companies

Richard asks:

I cant take it any more... dont suppose you could recommend someone/somewhere in Greenwich centre to do ironing, either in or to collect???

The Phantom replies:

My best recommendation is to do as I do - no ironing at all. I just don't buy everyday stuff that requires pressing, arguing that if I have to press a special occasion garment then I won't care, because I'll be so excited about the event...

Seriously, you can buy workshirts from John Lewis and, I think, M&S, which are called something like "easycare cotton" (might be "carefree cotton") which, if you stick it on a hanger the moment it comes out of the machine will dry perfectly acceptably.

If you really want razor creases and absolutely flat stuff, then I have definitely seen laundry collecting companies around but I erase them from my memory - the idea of ironing is too traumatic...

Bet there's someone here who knows a good one though. Good luck.

Local dry-cleaning companies might be a good place to start -- they often do laundry/ironing services as well... (Ours will even deliver, which is just as well since ironing is one of my pet peeves, too.)

Yes, both the dry-cleaning places (including Collins) on Trafalgar road do ironing. They may even deliver?! I'm planning on getting a cleaning person who can also do ironing - any suggestions there?!

Eton shirts, available at Selfridges, are pricy but classy. They make special ones which claim to require little but any ironing- but which, in my view, are all the better for a light press.

My top tip is to buy a couple twice a year on the first day of the Selfridges summer and winter sales when the selection is at its best.

They come in a full range of styles- formal and casual and I wear them everywhere- work, weddings, wakes, Walthamstow, Wales, the pub and the footy. They also make them for women apparently.

I'm looking for an ironing lady - wonder if you can pass on your lady's details please?

My first week doing a level chemistry and the posh woman who was teaching us said that she had something of the utmost importance to teach us ..far more important than anything we were about to learn about atoms and formulae .Gals , she said Gals you must realise that life is far far too short for ironing. If you are considering buying a garment look at the care label and if it requires ironing but it back -immediately! I can't remember much of the chemistry she taught me but that has always stuck in my mind. I am now the dry cleaning queen of greenwich but i only get the iron out on high days or ahead of holidays.
