What's historic about 258 Creek Road exactly? I get slightly frustrated by this knee-jerk romaticism that says that everytime something new wants to replace the old, it must be a bad thing. For the people living nearby, the scaffolding and poor-upkeep are unsightly, the 'green space' is tiny and has 6 trees, and the rest of the area is poorly lit and a dangerous crime-wise ... A new development doesn't always have to be bad ... debate
If the owner of this property has a case, a firm of solicitors such as www.publicinterestlawyers.co.uk should be able to advise. This isn't a plug for this firm in particular as I haven't used them. But firms like this have a great deal of experience in fighting battles like this. And I would suggest that if a fight is to be embarked upon, the under dog needs as much good quality professional advice as possible. Cost, of course, will be the issue ...

Erm anonymous if it were your home facing the wrecker's ball you wouldn't consider it 'knee-jerk romanticism.' Obviously your comments carry very little weight under the veil of anonymity.
Well, the plans I have seen are for dull, anonymous, yuck buildings very like what's around the DLR station, so I think the new development would be pretty bad, actually. I think the main objection, though, is the way in which Greenwich Council have treated the man who lives there. It seems that they did some demolition work which resulted in his house having to be held up with scaffolding, and they have failed to repair it properly despite the courts ordering them to. It's pretty obvious they hoped Mr Herbert would just give up and move out. So the state of the place is +not his fault+. I really think this sort of underhandedness ought to be stood up to. Please someone let me know if I have got this story wrong, but that's what I understand has happened in a nutshell from what I have read.
