Ideas Pool

Sam asks:

I wonder if you might ever have a section on your site for business opportunities/ideas? I have always had a dream of opening a cafe in Greenwich, Blackheath or Charlton that sells breakfast only, from all around the world. One slight problem is I don't have much cash to inject! I thought if you did have a section like that maybe people could get together for a project or at least swap ideas and good practice?

I love the idea of a cafe that serves breakfast around the world. Maybe you should make it a 24-hour eaterie and serve whatever food would be being served for breakfast at a particular time of day - 7.00am Croissants and coffee. 8.00am - Full English. 11.00am - New York Bagels. 3.00pm Mexican burritos. And so on, all around the world...

I like the idea of pooling ideas, but I'm not sure how it could work - this is a blog, with a classic blog format. Perhaps when I've been going longer (it's only been four months since I crossed from Livejournal to Blogger and I still don't really quite feel settled) I could look into expanding to a proper 'website' - but I suspect that's some time away.

For the moment though, if anyone fancies going in with Sam on an World breakfast bar, drop me a line at the usual address and I'll pass it on...

I drift off to sleep most nights dreaming of my stationery store. It's set up to look like this studio http://heatherbailey.typepad.com/heather_bailey/2007/02/the_studio.html but with papers instead of fabric. Complete with cosy work areas people could hire out by the hour. On evenings and weekends there would be intimate classes on bookbinding, papermaking, decoupage, you name it.

That darned empty Grace and Favour shop in Blackheath keeps calling my name. Darned my inherent risk aversion!

How many people want a proper art and design gallery in Greenwich?

I'm thinking about it but am rather put off by the idea of signing a three year lease. I've never managed any kind of retail business and currently get by on eBay.

Vote now if you want a local shop for those essential Eames chairs, Danish rosewood tables, beautiful glass vases, regular exhibitions of British Modern prints...

And step forward if you have the funding!

I would love a small tea shop with proper afternoon tea, not rock hard cakes that have been sitting there all day. Real height tables not stupid low coffee things that you just bang your knees on. Perhaps even cocktails and cupcakes in the evenings for those that want a chat, not a shouting match above loud music... If anyone wants to fund this...?!

I'm obviously a bit behind - what happened to Grace and Favour. Did Sisters and Daughters run them out of town???

I think they're still there - but I guess that they're not actually Greenwich. of course I like to include Blackheath here myself, but others have purer hearts...

Seems that we have loads of good ideas here. What we need to do is attract more angels - or at least a few venture capitalists.

Certainly an area to watch will be the one where the Old District Hospital was. There's only Manchesters there at the moment in the way of "quality" shops (apologies to the FABULOUS dry cleaners - you're great - no offense meant) but as soon as it's announced what will be going up at the site, depending on whether it's actually any cop, there may well be a scrum for what are currently empty shops. Get in there now and you may be sitting on a future goldmine when all those extra people move in...

What I'd like to see is a really quality bakers or a decent stationers instead of the mediocre stationers we currently have on Greenwich High Road.

Unless Grace and Favour are undergoing a major renovation, I'd take the newspapered windows as indication of being done and dusted. Granted there's no estate agent sign up, but nor is there any sign of life.

Oh dear. Still - since this is an ideas thread, maybe someone will comeup with something to replace it...
