Doctors, Dentists, Beauticians, Osteopaths

Jen asks:

"I've just moved into the area and need to register with a GP, Dentist and Osteopath and need to find a good beautician. Any recommendations?"

The Westcombe Park Dental Practice is all new and shiny and is, I believe, in the slightly strange situation of still taking National Health patients. They've always been good to me.

I would recommend Anita at House of Beauty (see separate entry) for all your beauty needs and there are osteopaths recommended on yet another Ask the Phantom... (scroll down to find it)

I can't help you with GPs as, ahem, I'm not actually registered with any. Anyone got any suggestions or recommendations?

I've just registered with the Vanbrugh Group Practice on Vanbrugh Hill. They have a good reputation with the locals, and I've found them to be very nice and helpful so far. I believe that they will be getting a shiny new building in the new what-used-to-be-the-hospital development.

Thanks Methers. I suspect that I should sing up myself at some point...

I use the burney st and the greenwich reach practice - they are really good and as you can go to either you get double the chance of having an appointment! So far they have coped well with my range of complex and confusing medical conditions so they have been added to my good books at present!

It's worth going to the Greenwich health centre for Osteopaths - they are very good, although the place has slightly hippy-like tones! Word of warning - some of the osteopaths only practice cranical osteopathy which is MUCH more gentle, so it's worth asking before you book an appointment.

Beautician wise, whilst the clipper is terrible at hair, the beauticians is fairly cheap and does a reasonable job.

I'm registered with the Peninsula Practice, tucked just behind the primary school, and have nothing but glowing praise for them. It's a modern, clean building with lots of natural sunlight (dingy waiting rooms hardly help you feel better), and the wait for an appointment is normally minimal.

Doctor - I'm with Vanburgh Group practice. V helpful on all counts. The building is old and run down but the service is good.

Dentist - I'm with "119 Vanburgh Hill" Excellent. They take NHS, are v helpful and efficient.

I'm about to leave The South Street Medical Centre in West Greenwich. Don't like it - one of those surgeries where you feel it's about the money. And while I'm slagging off: the worst haircut of my life was from one of the guys in The Greenwich Clipper, though Lesley (if she's still there - I was scared off) is lovely.
