The Phantom Returns...

Yup, folks, after being away for a week on a TOP SECRET MISSION, your friendly local spook is back.

Anything happened while I'm away that I should know about?

You haven't stolen the Henry Moore statue in the park have you? It has suspiciously disappeared....

Dear oh dear - I turn my back for a moment... ;-)

I somehow doubt it's a victim of the Henry Moore sculpture thieves who've been striking around London - I mean - how would they get in - let alone nick the piece - it can't be light. Probably it's been taken away for polishing or something. I'll see what I can find out...

Unfortunately the Henry Moore is no more! Read a notice on the nearby park gate today that the statue has been moved to Kew Gardens where it will be on display until it is eventually returned to the Henry Moore Foundation.

All that remains is a concrete block which held the statue in place. As the word 'Moore' is written on it I wonder whether new visitors will think this is the actual Henry Moore statue.

Perhaps you can find out whether they intend to put something suitable in its place.

I'll have a go - but I can't guaruantee success - either in finding out - or in there being anything of taste in its place. It's all been a bit quiet, hasn't it. I wonder if the Friends know.

I'll email and ask...

Over the years we have always relied on the Mogul for its excellent takeaway curries. Our recent meal was not quite up to the usual standard and we did hear that the restaurant may have changed hands. Is this true? Where else can anyone recommend we try?

Oh dear. I was a little worried about that. I used to love the mogul, but since I haven't been there since the refit (don't know if it's changed hands) I didn't want to write anything about it until I'd tested it out again.

Your comment concerns me. I'll try to get there asap, to see if I get similarly unexciting fare.

In the meanwhile, I'll be testing a new curry place on Sunday, that some friends have told me about. I don't know quite where it is - it's not in Greenwich town centre, I know that. I'll report on Monday if it's any good. We need to work together on this one. A good curry is a hard thing to find in Greenwich.

We have been working our way through the various flyers that plop onto the doormat, using a "control meal" as a test, but not had any luck with superb food anywhere. The slightly grotty-looking Trafalgar Tandoori wasn't bad - but that too is being spruced up at the moment - so no idea whether it's any good.

We had a takeaway from the Marsala on Woolwich Rd, which used to be Lahore Spice the other night. The menu looks suspiciously similar to when it was Lahore Spice, but I think the ownership has changed. It no longer boasts "award winning chef" (WHAT award, we always wondered) and now has a couple of tables, an inexplicable Arabian theme and bubblers.

The food really wasn't bad at all though. One of the better ones.

Coriander at Westcombe Park is quite a good sit-in curry house. Not so sure about The Royal Nepalese opposite though.

Anyway. I'll let you know about this new place...

Royal Nepalese was great when we lived nearby (last year) esp the channa. we ordered so many deliveries that we could just give hte address without having to place the order. And we got a christmas card.

That's good to know. Maybe they've changed hands - thye've certainly changed decor since we tried our 'control menu' takeaway a couple of years beack and were singularly unimpressed. I'll have to give them another go...

Just like to second the comment about The Royal Nepalese. The Lamb Khutta and the Chicken Dansak are sublime, have been having takeaways from them for a few years now and we are completely addicted. Really friendly staff, as well.
