A tiny little jewel of a shop which always has a good selection of different cheeses of the world (France features heavily) and one or two on the counter to taste. Their website boasts over 100 specially-sourced individually-made examples - though only a fraction of this is on display at any one time - probably a good thing with cheeses like Munster which has to be one of the smelliest
fromages of Eastern France. The cheese is usually of perfectly good quality - though I once bought a Mimoulette - admittedly a hard cheese - that was so solid that it was totally inedible - a shame since it's a particular favourite of mine.
It's a bit pricey - but that's only to be expected of something so specialist - and geographically placed. Royal Hill rents must be astronomical. You can get some good crackers to go with it and they also do a limited selection of Meantime Brewery Beer and other nibbles, pickles, jams and other cheese-related goodies. The shop always seems to be bursting at the seams with customers whenever I go.

I can't speak for "The Cheeseboard" specifically as I have yet to darken the door. La Fromagerie in Highbury and Marylebone have exactly the same disdainful attitude though. Even cheese sellers at the various farmers markets where people are usually so friendly, are a touch on the snooty side - perhaps it is just the cheese fumes that induce the perennial sniffy airs and graces?
You could have a point there. Now I come to think of it I have found these attitudes elsewhere in the cheese world. I confess that the Neals Yard Dairy branch in Brorough Market doesn't seem too bad, but it's a bit of a long way to go for a piece of cheddar, isn't it...
The people at the Cheeseboard have always been very sweet to me. I'm not a regular, been in there maybe four times in six years but they are very nice and helpful.
so, if every other person that you have bought cheese from has had an attiude then that's obviously a problem with them and nothing to do with you? maybe you give off vibes or something?
It is indeed possible. I don't consciosuly 'give off vibes' but you never know...
On the other hand, isn't the customer king? Whenever I've worked in service industries in the past (in various different guises) I've had to develop all kinds of masks to deal with difficult customers, but 'snooty' isn't one of them. I've done all manner of unpleasant jobs in my life, and usually make an effort to be pleasant (even to cold-call phone retailers.)
I've been in a couple of times in the past week or so and have had a different and very sweet young girl serving me. I'm waiting until I've been in three times, and had non-snooty service, then I might revise my opnion.
Oooo we love the cheese shop - real regulars, love the cheese and the bread and pickles. The younger staff have always been very friendly and knowledgeable so cant really fault them. Not had a bad experience. Another one of those shops we could do with more of. Not enough. Long live the Cheeseboard!
I confess I am gradually warming to them. They've taken on a young girl who's really knoweldgeable and friendly, and every time I've been in recently I've had a much better time. I'm waiting to go once more and be treated well and then I'll change this post...
Having just been to the Cheeseboard for the 2nd and final time, I would encourage you not to change your post, simply so that people don't go in there with expectations that are too high. I went along to try it twice. The first time the service was marginal (but then we did go at almost closing time), but today at mid afternoon it was abysmal. I felt like I was an inconvenience for the shop assistant to serve. I'd rather go out of my way to shop at Neal's Yard, where I have NEVER had bad service and I've been there a lot.
